Halloween

Our Halloween fruit kebob party was a big hit.  The kids ate SO much fruit and had a blast building their kebobs.  Thank you for all that you sent in to make it possible.  We all looked stellar in our costumes, too.  A bummer about the cancelled parade, but dressing up is always fun!

Science Experiment!

We are working on our Changes unit in science.  Today's lesson was about chemical changes.  The students mixed baking soda with both vinegar and water, and observed the different changes that occurred.  We learned that a in a chemical change two substances are mixed and a third is formed.  When we added baking soda to the vinegar a gas formed.  Big thank you to Dencie for stopping by our room and taking pictures of the experiment today!

Treworgy Orchard Field Trip

Our class spent a fun-filled day at Treworgy Orchard on Friday, September 21st.  Our day went like this... After a long bus ride we ate an early lunch when we arrived, checked out the goats, played a little bean bag toss, and waited for our tour to begin.  We started out with a hay ride around the farm, stopping to pick a little pumpkin in the pumpkin patch.  Some kids picked some REALLY tiny ones.  Then we got to feed the goats and even milk a goat!  Next stop was the apple orchard, where we heard about the different kinds of trees and how they stake them up so they don't blow over.  We were in a clearing where several trees had blown over in the past due to low soil, so they just didn't plant any more trees there.  Each student got to pick and eat an apple of their own.  Next stop: corn maze!  We used the map to find 6 locations and punch out characters who were suspects in a theft!  The one remaining animal, after punching the card at all 6 locations, was the culprit.  We raced up to the ice cream stand and enjoyed a treat before hopping on the bus for the long ride home.  We arrived back at school late and I'm sure disrupted a lot of schedules, but it was a successful, happy day on the farm!

Our guide Seth shows us the seeds inside an apple and tells us how they know if the apples are ripe by looking to see if the seeds are brown.
